WELL, they say it's the best medicine.
Socially minded fundraising group Pulse will hold a Ball of Laughs at Newcastle City Hall on June 2.
Coinciding with National Medical Research Week, proceeds from the black-tie shindig will go to the Hunter Medical Research Institute.
`Supporters have been asking for a formal event for ages, so we're giving them what they want,' Pulse chairwoman Kirsten Mulley said.
Upon arrival, ball guests will receive a sense-of-humour examination from The Clown Doctors.
The evening will also feature theatre-sports and performances by fast-rising funny men Doug Suiter and Dave Williams.
Suiter was a NSW finalist in the recent Triple J Raw Comedy competition. Williams made the decider at the Edinburgh Comedy Festival.
The event will be hosted by Wilson da Silva, the former Quantum reporter and foreign correspondent who is now managing editor of Newton Magazine. Da Silva, having started the Science in the Pub initiative, was the joint winner of last year's Eureka Prize for science promotion.
