AUSTRALIA’S ONLY carbon neutral media publishing company, Luna Media – publishers of COSMOS and G Magazine – has dominated the City of Sydney Business Awards, taking out the inaugural Lord Mayor’s Award for Sustainability as well as the coveted Environmental Business Award.

In accepting the trophies, Luna Media’s CEO Kylie Ahern encouraged all businesses to embrace the journey to sustainability.

“While being green is not an easy journey, the rewards are incredible in terms of customer support, staff loyalty and retention, plus the sheer exhilaration of just knowing it just makes sense,” Ms Ahern said.

“I’d also like to congratulate the City of Sydney for the effort taken to make the awards a truly green event, combining the use of seasonal and local food, 100% GreenPower electricity and the benefits of carbon offsets for all aspects of the awards function.”

Luna Media is an award-winning publisher producing leading titles, including Australia’s #1 science magazine, COSMOS, and the world’s only monthly consumer sustainability title, G Magazine.

“More needs to be done by the industry to connect with environmentally-conscious consumers. You need to be authentic, and that means changing your mindset and the way you do business.”

“Producing one magazine issue a year that highlights sustainability is welcome, but more needs to be done by the industry to connect with environmentally-conscious consumers,” said G Magazine’s editor-in-chief, Wilson da Silva. “You need to be authentic, and that means changing your mindset and the way you do business.”

Luna Media's owners and staff are passionate about being green. They have audited their emissions, targeted reductions and offset what could not be reduced – becoming the first carbon neutral media company in Australia. The offices use 100% GreenPower, has two worm farms and G is produced on post-consumer recycled paper. Most of the staff cycle to work or use public transport, the directors drive hybrids, and all products reviewed are raffled off, with the proceeds used to buy rainforest land and protect it from development.
